One reason why America’s decision to go to war with spain was the wrong one is because america was imperializing. Imperialism was a way for america to extend its power by taking over, protecting, and making alliances with other nations. America had just successfully annexed hawaii, and this was just the start of America’s success with imperialism. The USS Maine, was an American ship that was sent to Cuba to protect Americans who were living there. While the ship was docked in Havana Harbor, it blew up and killed over 250 sailors. Although this blowup was not anybody’s fault, the Americans immediately blamed Spain, publishing it in newspapers all over the country. Not only was this wrong because America did not have many reasons as to why this would be spain’s fault, but also because Spain immediately sent aid to help the american sailors after the explosion.
