Long term effects occur years after a student is out of school and will influence them and their lifestyles after they are done and out of school. Homework has a greater effect on students as they get older and climb in the ranks from kindergarten to the end of high school or maybe even into the end of college (Luke). The reason for this is because once students are into their teen years and beyond, they may encounter more responsibilities. Some of these responsibilities involve having a job, having to be fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle, and may also involve having a significant other in life. Once a student has all of these responsibilities they are very busy and barely ever get any downtime in life. Now stack two to four hours on top of that student’s life and it is a train wreck waiting to happen. These hours of homework are what can cause a student to get less sleep every night, which creates a lack in mental and physical performance. (“Pros and Cons of Homework”). When your body gets so used to going to sleep very late and having to wake early it starts becoming a regular thing, but a very dangerous and not so good regular thing. This is where the changes start happening, the student is so busy they no longer have time to work out, they no longer have time to make home cooked meals, and they no longer have time for any other things in their lives. If a student does not understand what was explained in the lesson taught at school, then homework just makes more of a disaster. It does this by creating more confusion to a student, because if the student did not learn the material properly then he or she may be doing the homework wrong which is not a good thing, this will then require more of a teachers guidance to get the student back on track for testing.
