18 September 2015 Roaring 20’s vs. Swinging 60’s Let’s take a trip back… way back… back into time. The 1920’s and 1960’s are two decades that have really defined the United States’ culture. From flappers to hippies, jazz music to rock, and Civil Rights movements, these two decades have helped shape the beliefs and rights we have today. The 1920s were an age of social and political change that would change the face of history in the United States. Women played a vital role in both decades. They have been able to express themselves freely, though with some consequences, so much has changed for them. They have gained the right to vote, were able to work in the same places as men, and proved that women are just as superior as men. Along with women showing their important roles in society in both decades came important documents. Both decades had important documents drawn up, such as the 19th amendment, Civil Rights Act, and the Voting Rights Act. With these documents, individuals gained the right to vote, speak freely, and were not to be discriminating against based on race, religion, or sex. Flappers also had the same mindset, which is why women started to wear more revealing clothing, regardless of what people in the community thought about it. Clearly the two decades were a phenomenal piece of history. Exceptionally, the 1920s and the 1960s are two decades we can really learn from. From the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote, and the Civil Rights Act, which prohibited discrimination based on sex, religion and color, and learning the ways of the flappers and hippies. In these two decade and all the ones in between, before, and after are why we have the rights and live the way we do
