December 15, 2017 PHIL 102 Final Essay A person’s value is defined by their own subjective experiences that they live by, which shapes them into the person they are presently and the person that they are meant to become. Our life experiences justify our morals, actions, beliefs, behavior, which is distinct and individualized. The value of life, and its relation to the extent of a person’s personal meaning is known through the choices a person makes in their life. It is the interior qualities of having experience and absorbing the outside world that shows the real identification of a person that can’t be replaced or duplicated, because each living object is in control of its life and has the right to its own life. Throughout Perry’s Dialogue and Descartes’ Second Meditation it comes to mind that a person survives if he continues to experience and ceases to exist as soon as they stop experiencing. First, a person’s survival is bound to the idea that they are living based on the guidelines and identification of knowing that they are alive in their body experiencing. Even the duplication of experience does not validate one’s survival or one experience, but instead creates multiple or another experience for every copy, even if the copies claim to be the same person as their original source, they logically are not. If a person was duplicated into a brand-new copy, that copy wouldn’t be the same person as the original in terms of the same experiences, because the experiences of the two would become separate experiences over time. This knowledge a person has is used to justify the choices and transformations that take place later in their lives. Experiences form the guidelines by which we live. Past experiences can show us what worked before and what did not work and help us become more informed people. Without experiences we fail to maximize the potential of human life. Human life ceases to exist only off the will and desire to try and experience new things. It is important that people continue to grow, develop, learn and experience new things for life to continue evolving forward. The act of living is defined by a constant evolution that only continues moving forward when acknowledging the ups and downs of trying new things. If people fail to be open to trying new experiences or to recognize themselves through their experience, then they are considered lifeless as a whole. A body is a medium in which we are born into and that houses the interior abilities that are only received, produced, recorded, and imputed through the action of living
