Introduction
Hyperlipidemia is not new to Filipinos. Hyperlipidemia is the abnormal elevation of any lipids like cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood (Saunders, 2007). According to the 2008 National Nutrition Survey (NSS) conducted by Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST) the total cholesterol level among Filipino adults increases to 10.2 (mg/dL) from the 2003 survey result 8.5 (mg/dL). Hyperlipidemia is mostly caused by sedimentary lifestyle like smoking, obesity and not exercising.
