Nursing, to me is a profession that plays an integral role in the healthcare field. This is a profession that involves a caring, educated and intelligent individual who devotes oneself to helping people. It is a calling for people who are motivated and passionate about caring for individuals. A nurse, I believe, is one who tries to Nursing care focuses on the individual, their families and their community to achieve optimal health and a more beneficial quality of life. Nurses have the capability, knowledge and training to work independently as well as collaborative with other health care workers. At times we are the front line members of the health care delivery system, as such, it is the nurse who often sees acute changes that may alter a patient’s life. We assess our patients on a daily basis and this assessment helps us to attain optimal health and preserve the patient’s health. We advocate for our patients and by being veracious in our tasks, we go the extra mile to protect our patients as well be their voices. We are the voice of those patients incapable of speaking up for themselves due to illness, altered mental status, or for those have inadequate knowledge. As such, we wear that hat of a profession with many diverse roles. We are patient educators, who are responsible for explaining procedures and treatments. We empower our patients to take active role in their care, we are their confidant and for the most part, the patient’s comforter. These facets helps to develop a rewarding and satisfactory career.
