FINAL SPORTS ESSAY
Across the United States, there are many schools that are debating whether or not they should get rid of sports. Numerous studies show getting rid of sports will raise district academic standards. Therefore, schools should dispose of sports to save money, have more people pass their classes, and have better school graduation rates.
As anyone should know, athletic equipment isn't cheap and districts could save a lot of money if they don't invest in sports programs. “In many schools sports are so entrenched that no one realizes the actual cost” ( Ripley 11). Students all over the U.S. are failing classes, because of this “America lags behind other countries academically” (Ripley 10). Ripley also concluded that schools who got rid of sports had a higher amount of students passing classes (11). This stands to show that districts who take away school athletic programs and make education number one, had great things to follow. Schools that take away sports will have more pupils pass their classes.
Last but not least many schools know that the U.S. needs to fix the graduation rates across the U.S. According to Ripley “80 percent of students passed their classes compared with the 50 percent the previous fall” (11). “About 160 people attended parent teacher night compared with 6 the year before” (Riley 11).This stands to show that taking away sports had a huge impact on graduation rates.Therefore taking away sports helps student graduation rates.
It’s useful for schools to get rid of sports because it’s important to save money,have more people pass classes,and have better school graduation rates.There is no debate that getting rid of sports causes students to focus more during school, because there isn't any distraction like what team is going to win.There for getting rid of sports saves money, more people will pass classes and will lead to better school graduation
