From what can be seen, she is wearing a full skirted garment that is mid-calf length and possibly a jacket with padded shoulders with a bonnet-like hat. In front of her is her youngest daughter, who is wearing a double breasted suit jacket, a knee length skirt, black strapped shoes, a bonnet-like hat, and a white purse with a long strap. In the center, my grandfather is wearing a suit jacket that has different colored sleeves with longer collar points and a diagonally striped tie. With the jacket, he is wearing loose, cuffed, pleated trousers. He is wearing a snap brim hat, which was a popular accessory of World War II menswear. In addition to the snap brim hat he is wearing a pair of saddle shoes, which may have been a little outdated for this time period. In Peacock’s sourcebook on menswear, he illustrates saddle shoes as being a prominent shoe style in the early to mid 1930’s (1996, p.136). The different colored sleeves on his suit jacket and lapel is something that was popular in the 40s. O’Donnol (1982) mentions two tone coat sweaters being a popular garment for young boys to wear during this period
