February Revolution
The February Revolution started on March 8, or February 23 using the Julian calendar, which Russia did. On March 8, demonstrators stopped working in Petrograd (st. Petersburg) and demanded bread. By march 10, almost every worker in Petrograd stopped working. Factories started electing councils. On march 11, the Petrograd army garrison was sent in to restore order, but the demonstrators didn't budge, and the troops started to waver. On march 12 the soldiers defected and joined the demonstrators. When the last of the troops defected, the soldiers and workers formed the Petrograd Soviet(council). Russia's problems were still unsolved, people still wanted to get out of WWI, have enough food, and land to live on(peace, land, bread was what Lenin used to help get supporters). A man named Vladimir Lenin led a group, called the Bolsheviks, to a powerful government position. He denounced the provisional government and blamed them for Russia's unsolved problems, and then people started demanding peace, land, and bread. Then the Bolsheviks ordered the military not to follow orders interfering with them.
