Walt Disney Company History Walt Disney began in 1923 in the back of a little office involved by Hollywood Los Angeles. It arrived that Walt Disney, and his sibling Roy, created a progression of short no frills/energized movies by and large called the “ALICE COMEDIES”. Inside of four months, the constantly developing staff moved adjacent to bigger offices, where the sign on the window read "Disney Bros. Studio. " after a year, in 1925, the Disneys made a store on a Hyperion Avenue part in the Silver Lake locale of Los Angeles.…
On the surface, one might not think that the great Italian opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi and the acclaimed indie group Dinosaur Jr. have much in common. One concert, for instance, took place in an intimate performing arts center to an attentive and quietly reverent audience while the other in a loud, rough-and-tumble rock venue to a lively and informal audience. Indeed, there may appear to be no similarities between the effortlessly skilled classical stylings of the UNT College of Music and the deliberately ramshackle indie sound of Dinosaur Jr. However, with these two concerts, we see Christopher Small’s concept of “musicking” in full effect and, critically, two different forms of the same musical elitism.…
Making a Musical Romance It’s an all too familiar trope in the film musical genre: the perfect couple locks eyes across the room. The piano strikes up. The happy couple sings in perfect harmony.…

#GirlsCan commercial, and that is part of what makes the commercial so relatable. As seen in Figure 1, the commercial opens with Ellen DeGeneres saying the phrase “girls can’t”. The commercial then discusses how women sometimes hear, but oftentimes feel as if they cannot do something. The commercial then flips the phrase to “girls can”, which is the main message of the ad.…
My experience in the Mary Poppins cast has been probably one of the best things to happen to me so far in my life. At my old school in 10th grade I was in theatre, then the following year I was bullied out, and I desperately missed theatre. It was my life, I enjoy it so much and it is such a part of me. So coming here and deciding to audition on just the second day of school was a really big deal for me. I was absolutely terrified to, but I stuck through and did it anyways, and I am so happy that I did.…
A New Look Through the Looking Glass The reality of life is that nothing thing is really as it seem to be. My choice as a gendered toy for both girl and boy was Marvel action figures. For the boy, I chose to write about the Marvel Spider-Man and in particular Marvel’s Lasher. The packaging black and white with the name “Marvels Lasher” displayed a crossed a red banner with white lettering. These colors, representing power and blood work to further the male mindset of superiority. Lasher, utterly inhuman in appearance, made of green sludge with white eyes and possessing superhuman abilities that help him to outwit and fight nearly everyone.…
From Disney Pixar comes Up, a comedy adventure about 78-year-old ballon salesman Carl. The sometimes grumpy elderly old man Carl wants to fulfill his lifelong dream of visiting South America. He ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilderness but discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has latched himself along for the ride: an overly optimistic 8-year-old named Russell. The movie UP is a surprising tale of followings one 's dream, facing fears and being true to who you are even in the face of hardship and also about the power of human connections. Erikson’s psychological theory of development described development as occurring in eight discrete stages across a person’s lifespan.…
E.Y. Harburg said “Words make you think. Music makes you feel. A song makes you feel a thought.” (E.Y. Harburg). This could not be more evident than in the song “Love Yourz” by the rapper J.Cole.…
When I was just a toddler, I would try to climb in the dishwasher and take everything out while mom was trying to do the dishes. In order to keep me from doing that, dad needed to play video games as long as they entranced me. One of the games he played was The Legend of Zelda. Growing up with this game and spending time with my dad while he played it fueled the love I developed for this game and it’s music. The first four songs on the soundtrack of my life, composed by Koji Kondo, are songs from that video game.…
OutKast, a popular rap group throughout the nineties and early 2000s, has a renowned song entitled “Hey Ya!” which features the smooth flows of Andre 3000 and hard hitting rhymes of Big Boi. The song has been a huge hit for years and is virtually known by every American under the age of thirty. When the song was released in 2003, I was just three years old, but had already adopted my dad’s love for music and I frequented the kitchen tile as my dance floor whenever music was playing. OutKast’s song “Hey Ya!” holds a different weight than most other songs I grew up around because it is one of few memories I remember vividly about my childhood.…
Funk music as an expression brought with it a newly packaged music that was capable of fully embracing both the performers’ and audiences energies. Funk emphasized dancing and how it further expressed implicit meanings not always explicitly understood through the lyrics. Funk music opened the door for a particular subculture, black youth, to take their form of dance expression and broadcast it across the United States through the culturally important program Soul Train. In particular, the importance of individual, creative dance broke the mold of many of the dancing trends in music that preceded it. This important aspect of musical expression transcended the era of funk and to this day dancing is still just as important in the world of music…
