The trait that stood out most on his talk was intellectual humility. Intellectual perseverance is “the disposition to work one’s way through intellectual complexities despite frustrations inherent in the task”. Even though the operation failed General McChrystal rebuilt the confidence and faith of the solders as well as the commanders. Although, he did not mentioned if a second mission was completed successfully, because of his leadership one is able to envision a stronger team.
General McChrystals’ recollection of his experiences and interaction with others portrayed many of the traits discussed in the module. His ability to reason and understand the point of view of others as well as their thinking makes him a strong-sense critical thinker. From acknowledging that at his age there was much to learn, to realizing the differences in his team, McChrystal possessed many of the traits of a disciplined mind. His fairmindedness made him a great leader not only for his team but also for the country. The video showed me how the intellectual traits are used on a day to day basis.
