Deriving from Los Angeles, the band was known for their, “emergence from the metal scene as mainstream stars,” (Covach and Flory, 2015). Their typical genre can range anywhere from hard rock to heavy metal, but usually depends on personal judgement. The band rose to stardom after the release of their debut album, “Appetite for Destruction, which is ranked as the biggest-selling debut of any rock band,” (Eddy and Greene, 2016). “Paradise City”, which happens to be a single that derives from this album, can be identified as an iconic song for any generation. This particular song was the first written song by this band, which of whom contained the original members. It has been stated by the lead singer, Axl Rose, that the chorus is based upon his life in the Midwest where he obtains “images of innocence and possibilities,” (2016). Considering this song is approximately seven minutes long, there is a particular section of the song in which a single-note melody is being depicted within. A melody can be defined as “the succession of single tones in musical compositions,” (2016). The lead guitarist, Slash, was known for his long and drawn-out guitar solos that were always included in their music (Covach and Flory, 2015). These solos often set the melodic tone in their songs, most notably, “Paradise City.” The guitar solo in this particular song is one that every listener seems to never forget. The solo is towards the end of song, although, it is the beginning of the climax of the
