Anxiety disorders are a group of psychiatric or psychological disorders. They include generalised anxiety disorders, social phobias and specific phobias. For example, agoraphobia and claustrophobia panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder. Untreated anxiety disorders can lead to depression. (Anxiety Disorders. 2012) However social phobia is the focus of other people’s attention which can lead to intense anxiety. People with this may fear being criticised, embarrassed or humiliated, even in the situations that is ordinary for everyone else, everyday situations. Social phobia can be generalised into a fear of social situations, such as performance situations where the patient is having to give a speech or being watched while doing something at work or situations involving social interaction such as having a meal with friends, or making small talk. (Social phobia. 2013) Due to the initial choice by Heather where she picked subjects where she could hide in the back of the classroom and not have to communicate with the ‘strangers’ her intense fear of speaking to people enhances the fact that she has social phobia as she does not want to communicate with society. Another key symptom that portrays her psychological condition of Social phobia, after two years of going to subjects with the same people she still feels the same way each time she attends class however now she is faced with the possibility of having to speak and she feels embarrassed as if she is going to vomit and the fear of being
