Grendel’s mother wanted payback and revenge so she decided to go attack the Danes and Hrothgar's kingdom. When it was dark in Heorot, she attacked. When she entered the hall, she was surrounded by the warriors and felt tense. She then grabbed one of Hrothgar's trusted man and grabbed Grendel’s bloodied hand. When the men arrived Grendel’s mother territory, they witnessed “Aeschere’s head at the food of the cliff.”(1421) They all felt afraid of Grendel’s mother but also wanted to fight for their dear lost friend. Grendel’s mother is somewhat weaker than her son when it comes to fighting but she doesn’t have any sorrow when she kills someone. As Beowulf dives in the waters, she sees him and drags him to her cave. Beowulf “pitched his killer opponent to the floor but she rose quickly and retaliated, grappled him tightly in her grim embrace... she pounced upon him and pulled out abroad, whetted knife: now she would avenge her only child.” (1540-1547) She was so close in killing Beowulf if he didn’t have his armor that protected him. The only object that was able to kill her was her own armory that he used to bring an end to her
