The poems “Ex-Basketball Player” and “Anthem for Doomed Youth” are two very different poems; in setting, the way they are written, and how they portray heroism. The poem “Ex-Basketball Player” is written third person and focuses on a man who was once great at basketball, but is stuck in his fame of high school. “Anthem for Doomed Youth” is written in third person talking about WWI, how gruesome the war was and how the soldiers do not receive the honourable death they deserve. “Ex-Basketball Player” is written into five stanzas from third person, with the first giving us an image of where the character “Flick Webb” now resigns. This stanza gives us an idea of exactly where Flick is in his life and it is crucial to the rest of the poem.…
On Oklahoma postman rescued a young girl from a burning house, a paramedic bride helped people in a car crash, despite the fact that her wedding was still going on, and a marine who lost both feet in Afghanistan saved a baby from a car crash. They all had a choice to walk away and not care at all, yet they decided to take a risk and save a life. These courageous heroes didn’t even think twice about the possible harmful consequences of their actions. The actions of true heroes today are deemed as selfless only if they put their lives in danger to save someone, perform beneficial deeds without expecting anything in return, or take bold actions despite fears. Heroes that endanger their own life for the benefit of others are truly selfless.…

In the words of Bob Riley, “Hard times don’t create heroes. It is during the hard times when the ‘hero’ within us is revealed”. The acts of perseverance, courage and humility are the details that differ heroes from the rest of world. Like white paint against a dark and rough background, these attributes cause heroes to stand out, differing from the rest. Heroes’ actions speak loud and bold with determination to complete the task.…

This idea is either explicitly or implicitly presented to people, either through books, movies or in TV shows. The plot of the book, The Hunger Games showcases an example of what people think of as heroism with the character, Katniss Everdeen—a girl who sacrifices her own safety in order to keep her younger sister from harm. Heroism and sacrifice are often associated together, which explains why the military and government handled Pat Tillman’s death the way they did. People are constantly hearing…
In a universe filled with memories, cries, love, hate, and many more, it is also filled with many different types of people that wander throughout the world today. However, there are other different types of people today but are known for being the same thing, and those people are called heroes . A vast majority of people see a hero as someone who saves people’s lives by destroying the evil villain, but that is not necessarily the case. Many people throughout the world have made history in a way no one else really could. Those people have changed the lives of many people in society by influencing them to make their lives better or by knowing what choices are the right ones to make.…
A book by Mark Lee Greenblatt features a man named Chris Kyle. Chris a Navy seal , independently rescued Marines that were trapped in a house in Fallujah Iraq during his tour. He went to every extent to make sure no man was left behind, even if that meant dragging a Marine fifty yard to safety. In the Military no man is left behind, following that principle comes down to the person's heart. The gut feeling of putting your life or job or time on the line and casting out to see what you can catch when you reel it back in.…
We Could Be Heroes In today’s multi-media world, the concept of a hero has often been watered-down to include star athletes, pop-culture celebrities, and those on the local news who perform a single gallant act. To the 18th-century professor of Latin Eloquence at the University of Naples in Italy, Giambattista Vico, a hero and particularly, the heroic mind, had a much deeper significance. Vico sees the heroic mind with an unquenchable hunger for knowledge.…
He suggests that by having such heroes can “really expand on our sense of possibility” (3). I imagine that by him telling us it’s as simple as us telling the stories of the true heroes of our time, it would elicit an urgent response from the reader to want to take action right away. Hearing about such a major problem, when there is such a simple start of a solution should encourage anyone who reads his article to “just tell the stories”…
And readers and by standers we will learned and remember about the hero. The women was searching for help that her baby is not breathing and it caught the band’s attention. Anthony rushed towards the baby and tried CPR but the baby’s mouth was completely closed and found a different solution: “I tried to open the mouth . . . shut, locked shut.…
