Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory talks about how organizations can achieve high levels of communication in multi-cultural situations. His concept narrows mainly on the interrelation existing between personal relationships, culture, and values. Hofstede approach used the factor analysis approach which looked into organizational culture and then placed it in culture and relationships and human values at the center. There are six key parts in the six dimension approach; cross cultural dimension, cultural beliefs of the individuals, international relations, and management. collectivism (IDV) is the extent of incorporation of the people in society into groups. Individualistic societies have a very loose connection that every so often only relates an individual’s to their immediate family. These societies put more emphasis on the “I” versus the “we.” On the other hand, collectivism defines a community with tightly-integrated relations with ties in extended families and others into in-groups. These in-groups are tied up with certain loyalty and backing each other when a conflict occurs within the in-group. Individualistic societies are concerned with individual needs leading to reduced unity. Unlike an indulgence society which believes that people have control over their own lives, a restrained society believes that other factors dictate their emotions.
