Analyzing the Spanish Fascism of the twentieth century leads me to develop an array of conclusions about the unique Spanish structure of Fascism. The first being religion, in particular Roman Catholicism played a fundamental role in Spanish Fascism. Secondly, Franco’s military and personal background largely influenced his appreciation of military conservatisms and nationalisms, which transcended into Spain’s society. Thirdly, the economic state of Spain following the Spanish Civil War and during the global crisis of World War II is central to the rise of a Fascist regime in Spain. Lastly, Franco’s emphasis on Spanish culture and national identity provided for large support of the public, which supported Franco throughout his regime. Was Fascism different in application in Spain than infamous Germany and Italy? Why was Fascism instilled in Spain for as long of a time period as it was? Did the religious aspect integrated in Spanish Fascism significantly factor into why Spain survived as a Fascist state. I intend to address and answer analytically all of these questions throughout my paper. I argue that Fascism in Spain was able to maintain power for its impressive length despite its defeat elsewhere because of its National-Catholicism policies and ability to provide solutions to an economically devastated
