May 5, 1789- King Louis XVI convened the Estates General (which had not met in 175 years) to levy a new land tax to hopefully solve his monetary woes, (the French king and country were broke).
June 20, 1789- The newly created National Assembly, which was mostly made up of the middle and lower classes of the Third Estate, was going to be shut down by the King, but N.A. declared that they would not disband until they had written a new constitution for France. This also became known as the Tennis Court Oath.
July 14, 1789- A mob attacked the Bastille (prison) to free the seven prisoners, but to mostly gain weapons.
August 26, 1789- Declaration of the right of man and of the citizen was now finally in action.
