It is home to one-fifth of the countries population. The city is often called the focal point of the nation. Budapest is the cultural and functional center of the nation. It is the main draw or location where tourists or anything important would take place throughout the country. While this is obvious considering it is the capital, the people of Hungary hold Budapest in high regard. It is considered the culmination of everything Hungary. Budapest has seen a very rapid increase of population and city growth over essentially its entirety. It is 10 times larger than Hungary’s next largest city. These climates include that of the Mediterranean, continental and oceanic regions. Temperatures vary from negative fourteen degrees celsius or seven degrees fahrenheit to usually at the most thirty six degrees celcius or ninety seven degrees fahrenheit. Rainfall varies throughout the country with it falling more often in the west than the east, while most of the rain fall during the summer time. Along with the rain mostly falling during summer months, it is very common that droughts occur during the summer months as well. Taking into account that half the country essentially gets less rain than the other and this seems fairly obvious. With that comes the struggles of agriculture throughout the country. The soil in Hungary is for the most part fertile and bares fairly well, but as previously stated the shortage of rain can be overbearing for agriculture and cause significant problems. Roughly fifty-two percent of the land is arable. Also, half or more of the country is settled in the Great Plain. Agriculture in the country contributed to four percent to GDP in 2003. Along with that agriculture accounted for around ten percent of the labor force in Hungary and output was valued to be greater than €1.95 billion.
