1. This classroom is quite small, containing a smart board and a white board. There were a few inspirational posters that displayed quotes from people such as Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi and Amelia Earhart. There was also a wall dedicated to the “Picture of the Day,” a warm up activity generally used to initiate conversation or introduce the day’s lesson. Since this is an upper school science classroom, there are several textbooks in the room covering several areas of Science instruction including, Earth Science, Biology Elementary Science and Life Skills. This is my teacher’s first year in this room, but this classroom could definitely use more color and instructional material.

The first weakness that is very noticeable about this room is the size. It is a very small and narrow room. The maximum number of students in that classroom at any one time is nine, however it does get cramped very easily. Ms. Humphrey has arranged the room in such a way that utilizes the space as best as she can. She pairs the students often so many of the desk as in pairs, which also saves a little space in the room. The room has two windows, but the building is very shaded so not a lot of natural sunlight comes in. There are both fluorescent and track lighting in the room, the track lighting is much softer and is used more often. One of the other weaknesses that I noted was that the projector for the smart board sits on the kidney-shaped table. This greatly limits how the desks can be arranged. I would want to have that projector secured to the ceiling so that I had more space and could perhaps change up the desk arrangement. Despite the limitations in this classroom, the students seem comfortable in the room and are attentive usually. I think if the students had more room to move, it might hold their attention for longer periods of time, and allow for some more space during science …show more content…
Humphrey teaches most of the upper school sciences, with the exception of her 4th period, which is an elementary science class. She teachers two sections of Biology (I&II), which contains high school, aged students. She also teaches Earth Science, which contains older Middle School students. The Life Skills class was full of students who were graduating with a certificate of completion, rather than a traditional diploma. Each period is a 50 minute period, though several breaks are taken throughout the period, almost all students have mandatory breaks written into their
