The role of forensic science starts after Crime Scene Investigation. It is the Physical Evidences which are Collected, Packed, Preserved, from the crime scene and Forwarded to the Forensic Laboratories for their examination under the different branches of this science.

Toxicology is the science dealing with properties, actions, toxicity, fatal dose, detection, estimation and treatment of poisons. The detection of poisons and quantitative estimation are the essential features of forensic toxicology and toxicological chemistry is the basis of all such investigations in cases of poisoning, fatal or otherwise.
In ancient times the tribal and primitive men used to paint the arrow heads to render the more effective and killing their enemies, men and animals.
Though it is very hard to define “poison” but it is a substance (solid, liquid, gas) which if introduced to the living body or brought in contact with any part there of produces ill health or death or both, by its’ constitutional or local effects or both.
Again many substances which are harmless and is essential for maintaining health may act as poison under certain conditions. For example: Common salt is a harmless substance, but it was used in India for getting rid of unwanted children b putting it into their mouth, immediately after birth.
In short, the doze of intake of any substance accounts for its’ therapeutic or poisonous effects. There is no soluble substance known that doesn’t possess toxic properties, when large dozes are given.
