The infant mortality rate is so high in India, and knowing the causes is crucial in order to help decrease the rate. According to Singh, around 1.3 million newborns die every day in India due to various causes (Singh, 2015). Prematurity, low birth weight, neonatal infections, birth asphyxia, and birth trauma are they main causes of deaths in infants born in India and this is due to the lack of health care access and qualified birth attendants present during labor (For et al., 2010). One of the other key health status indicators is under- 5 mortality rate, and most of the deaths are caused by diarrhea (For et al., 2010). Initially the Rotavirus is what causes the diarrhea in children who live in unsanitary places where clean water and food is contaminated with the virus (Kang, 2013). There are vaccines that help prevent this virus because trying to keep the rural areas and slums clean is not enough when the virus is still being easily transmitted through the children (Kang, 2013). These numbers have not decreased over the years and just keep becoming larger due to the population’s lifestyle. Malaria is another disease that has an impact on the India population. Malaria has killed millions of people over the years, since 2000 mortalities have decreased from 2 million to 882, 000 in 2013 (WHO, 2015). These numbers are slowly decreasing due to a certain program created by the World Health Organization that implemented specific goals, like controlling, pre-eliminating, preventing, and reintroducing the disease.
