Edgar Allan Poe came into this world on the date of January 19th 1809 in Boston Massachusetts. Poe was the second son born to David and Elizabeth Arnold Poe, who were both active theatrical performers. After almost 3 years after his birth his mother died on December 1811, after giving birth to a little girl. She then fell ill from a fever and died in Richmond Virginia at the age of 24. Poe became the foster son of John Allen, a tobacco merchant, who was able to provide for Poe.
