Interior design is an exciting and rewarding occupation. It revolves around creativity, intellectual fulfillment, and also provides a lifetime of personal appeal. Interior design is vital, vibrant, and dynamic, meaning that as the world changes so does life around us, and design keeps up with the pace. Since we are also evolving and advancing into the future with new technology and ideas, the interior of a space is never truly finished, because it can always be enhanced by the environmental surroundings and current trends of the time. The earliest influence comes from prehistoric times. Prehistoric focus was on function rather than decoration but the way they decorated with their drawings, was seen as showing intelligence (Lesse). Today prehistoric tribes are still using wood, mud, and animal skin to make a functional and comfortable home. Gothic architecture emerged in Europe bringing distinctive design styles. Gothic architecture focused on large building styles. Many were based around religion and covered with carvings, tapestries, and murals that stretched over facades and even over ceilings. Beauty and function were of equal importance to them. Modernism followed the eighteenth and nineteenth century styles. Designers become more famous rather than behind the scenes workers. We often don’t consider the impact that it is making on us. Design is a process of solving problems, as well as a large part of making the consumer want or need something before they even recognize that they do. Good interior design solutions have the power to make people feel positive in their surroundings. With time materials and furnishings become worn, and no longer suitable. New architecture evolves and so then does the interior, this normally results in requiring for the need of spaces to be refurbished.
