Fear is a chemical reaction that tells our brain and bodies that something is wrong. It is a survival instinct that that keeps us safe and out of danger. But what chemical reactions happen when you are afraid. To answer that we look to science. When fear senses pick up a fear stimulus, your brain goes through two different paths. The “High Path” and the “Low Path,”-(Layton). Both paths create a different outcome, and both happen simultaneously. The “Low …show more content…
Then, the information will be sent to the hippocampus. The hippocampus asks questions such as, “has this happened before, what other explanations could explain what is happening,”-(Layton) Once the stimulus gets through these different paths, you feel scared. But it is possible to take fear too far, and that, is an irrational fear. There is no problem with being afraid. But having an irrational fear is different. An irrational fear literally makes you flip out at an animal or objects. If you constantly have an irrational fear, it is called a phobia. There have been many different types of phobias from the fear of spiders to the fear of flying, to some really weird ones like Ablutophobia,-(Watts) the fear of washing or bathing. But how do these phobias come to be, to answer that, we look to genetics. Genetics play the biggest role in growing, without them we couldn't even develop in the womb. This is a very touchy subject because scientist can't find an exact gene that triggers a phobia, but they know that it is a leading role,-(Watt). The other main factor are personal experiences, if you see a devastating train crash, or you apart of one, …show more content…
But not all fear is normal. Some of the fear is unnatural, unnerving. Giving you chills down your spine by just the sight of it. This is the “creeps.” Now, everyone knows what it is like to be afraid. Weather it be spiders or a gun, all of us fear something. But what if what we see, isn't exactly scary, what if their is nothing threatening our life but we still, feel awkward, and “Creeped out.” This is ambiguity. Ambiguity is the uncertain in the world.(McAndrew) When we see something that is ambiguous, that means that it is unnatural. Like a man wearing a unnatural mask. You can’t see his true face, his true emotions. You don’t know if this man is a threat to your life, and you don’t know who he is. So you stuck, stuck between the mountains of safety and danger. You are stuck, in the valley of creepy.(McAndrew) Where you feel the most unnatural. The most “Creeped out” now mix that feeling with some odd photos like the infamous smile.jpg, and you get something that is creepy. But creepy, or fear in general is not always a good thing. It can warp the mind and messes up the brain to the point where you might not make good
