A hero is a person who is recognized for their words or actions. They are the people who create moments in history where the world is fundamentally changed from the way it was before they stepped up to make a difference. Heroes live on even after they die and leave a legacy for others to follow. Some heroes aren’t even discovered until after their death because often society is not ready to see the power of what they have done! Jesse Owens was born into a poverty-stricken family on September 12, 1913, in Oakville, Alabama. The son of a sharecropper would soon become the fastest man in the world. Jesse was born into a poor home which would lead him to have to work several jobs to support his household. Jesse also suffered from chronic bronchial congestion and pneumonia making life hard for Owens. When Owens was in high school he would have to wake up early in the morning to practice. He would also have to deal with the repercussions of racism. Then Jesse would have to work several jobs just to get to Ohio State. Even when he was older he still had to deal with racism. Jesse Owens would spend countless hours to make himself better and to achieve his goals. Some examples of his perseverance include. The time Jesse Owens had fallen down a flight of stairs and bruised his lower back five days before the Big Ten Championships. The day before the event Jesse could barely touch his knees. Fighting through the pain Jesse Owens had set five world records in only fourty-five minutes. Then later when Jesse was invited to go to the Olympics he would have to deal with the racial backlash that would come from Berlin. Hitler wanted the Olympics to showcase the Aryan racial superiority of Germany, and Hitler even said that the black athletes were “subhuman” compared the the unquestionably superior German athletes. During the long jump Owens was flustered with his first jump (what he thought was a practice jump) being a scratch, and another scratch on his second jump it was looking like Jesse would not even to able to move on. Then Carl Ludwing ( a german athlete) would give Owens some advice on where to take off from. Owens through the pressure would go on to the next round and win gold. Then after the Olympics Jesse Owens got to be in the parade and that was it. Hoping that he would receive endorsement deals, but everyone seemed to forget about the achievements that happened in Berlin. So Jesse would have to resort to racing amateurs and horses. He even played for the Harlem Globetrotters!Then working up
