The location that I chose to observe was Kailua beach in Hawaii. The beach is known to be a local hotspot. There you will find many locals swimming, surfing, barbecuing, and enjoying themselves. Driving up to the beach you probably wouldn’t think that right behind the abandoned house was how you actually got to the beach. There is a small parking lot that locals wait to park in. There is no paved pathway to get to the beach there are only paths on the grass that have been made by people. I wasn’t sure if all these kids skipped school, or were out of school or what the case was but there was a lot of them. I noticed a group and or family that consisted of two teenage girls close in age with three little girls close in age. The little girls looked like they were between the ages of 6 to 8 no more than 9 or 10. I saw them on the shore laughing and talking and encouraging the younger ones to go further out in the water on their body boards. This surprised me, because I wondered if they would be okay and safe. Soon after I saw them surfing the waves I assumed that they were accustomed to this. The older girls seemed to hangout on the shoreline until the waves got bigger. Once the waves got bigger the older girls went surfing themselves. The children seemed to be doing their own thing and were not supervised by the older girls. In the second family I observed there was only one woman and 6 males. I thought to myself wow that must be interesting. This family set up a whole entire tent and a barbecue pit out on the beach. I had never seen that before. One thing I noticed with the teenage girls and this family was that the kids were often to themselves playing on the shore or in the water. No one was constantly watching the children or always in the watch with them. Both families interacted with the kids well and spoke light hearted with them but gave them a huge independence. I was shocked only
