Average Klingon user
Klingon is an artificial language, an addition to fiction, it was not created as a tool for natural communication among people. However, some people, especially Star Trek fans, started to use it just for fun, mainly in written form while talking on the Internet.
It leads us to a characteristic of an average Klingon user, which was made by Judith Hendriks-Hermans as the basis of her Master’s thesis. Her questionnaire is composed of three parts, the first one is focused on personal information, second on relation to Klingon, and the third part on attitude towards the language. The survey was filled by 109 people, 79 of them identified themselves as Klingon speakers. Most of them were men and the average of their age was 31.
Apart from using the same language, the Klingon community shares the same language patterns and attitude towards the language. The survey also shows that most of the Klingon speakers find their mother language easier and better in communication than Klingon. Some of the respondents believe that Klingon will survive only as a hobby which is connected to the Star Trek.
