In this essay, I will explain the meaning of the quoted phrase below. Second, I will relate the quote to Lady Macbeth’s character. Lady Macbeth said this to complain about her husband. As I was reading, I understood why her quote made sense, mostly because her husband was having second thoughts about the killing of King Duncan.

First, I will explain the meaning of the phrase: “Come you spirit, that tend on mortal thought, unsex me here, And fill me, from the crown to the toe, top full of direct cruelty.” Lady Macbeth was plotting King Duncan’s murder so Macbeth will become King. She thinks her husband is not a man because he does not want to kill the King.

Lady Macbeth is shown as a powerful female character, tougher than her husband, and ambitious. She is manipulative, as a result, she manipulated Macbeth into killing the King, accusing him of not being man enough. Therefore, she wishes to be a man to kill the King, because of Macbeth’s indecisiveness. …show more content…
