People always say “the first impression is everything”. This is true when it comes to the first impression colleges make on their students as well. The first impression every college has on its students is more than likely what the student sees on the college’s webpage. With that being said, every college should want its webpage to outshine all of its competitor’s webpages, so the students can have a good impression of what the college is like. After comparing Lake Land College and Parkland College’s webpage, it is found that Lake Land College’s webpage, for the most part, is better than Parkland College’s webpage.

For example, both webpages have links to “academics,” “admissions,” “about us,” “enroll now,” and “visit us”. In the “academics” link, both webpages offer links about “academic programs,” “college catalogs,” and “class schedules”. Within the “admissions” link, both webpages have links to “admissions and records,” “international students,” and “savings”. In the “about us” links, both webpages have links to “accreditation,” “board of trustees,” “institutional research,” “mission and values,” “strategic plan,” and “sustainability”. Within the “enroll now” link, both webpages have information on what to do when enrolling into each school. In the “visit us” link, both pages have information on campus visit days and how to schedule an individual visit day. Both pages also have the school’s address and phone number clearly stated, which makes it easier to contact the school. Both webpages also have information about the schools tuition and fees and financial aid. Each webpage also has a tab that gives information about scholarships and deadlines. Both pages also have a “student life” link that gives information about athletics, clubs, and events going on at the campus. At first glance, Lake Land’s webpage is more attractive because it is spread throughout the whole screen and uses bold colors like red and black, while Parkland’s webpage only takes up the middle part of the screen and does not use many colors. Lake Land’s webpage also shows a slideshow of pictures that stretch across the whole top part of the screen, while Parkland’s webpage only has a couple pictures that are not near as big as the pictures on Lake Land’s webpage. Lake Land’s webpage also looks better because it has all the main information at the top of the screen, opposed to Parkland’s webpage, who has all of its information spread down the whole homepage. Lake Land’s webpage is more concise with the way that it lists information on the webpage’s home page, compared to Parkland’s webpage whose information is spread through the whole homepage, making the visitor have to read through a lot, and possibly boring the visitor. Lake Land’s webpage also uses a bigger font than Parkland’s webpage, making Lake Land’s webpage a lot easier to read. With that being said, Lake Land College’s webpage is better in appearance compared to Parkland’s webpage based on the aspects of pictures, use of space, and font
