The culture of such surroundings plays a pivotal role in shaping the culture and by extension the communication behavior of an individual. For instance, developed most of my cultural and communicating traits from my society through daily communication with family friends and acquaintances, and from reading various material and observing the behaviors of other people around me.
Listening Skills and Effectiveness
I believe my listening skills to be average since I do listen and pay attention to the speaker. I do, however, find myself occasionally distracted by my thoughts and by random activities or objects in the surrounding. This happens both in interpersonal one on one conversations as well as in groups, meetings, lectures and public speaking and speeches. Among the skills learned, on the topic of effective informational listening, is always to try as much to be attentive and listen, as listening is not a natural characteristic, but one that requires effort. A DeVito and Mark Knaps, there are six major steps involved in the development of any relationship. Taking the example of a previous romantic relationship, there was the initial contact with the person, where the decision was made to either engage or dismiss. This took a matter of seconds after introductions at a party. The stage that follows is involvement where the parties get to know each other better. This took a couple of minutes at the party, and a number of dates after that prior to the decision to commit being made. Once the choice has been made, what follows is the intimacy phase. This is the stage where the relationship is at its peak. The parties get to know more about one another and making friends, family and the general public know of the status of the relationship. This stage may take a long time, and some lead to greater steps such as marriage. In some, such as my previous relationship, this step is later hampered by anxiety and security issues either between the two parties, or one. If such feelings are not checked, they usually lead to the deterioration stage of the relationship. In this stage, there is an increase of arguments, confrontations and conflicts that often result in a divide between the parties. This conflicts will often lead to the repair stage, where the parties will both try and sort the issues among themselves or with the help of another individual. The stage may result in resolving the relationship, which usually
