By advocating manipulation, self-interest and deception, Machiavellianism tend to place a whole lot importance upon themselves and put themselves first, even on top of everyone in their social circles. For instance, they will utilize suspicion of others and a range of to affect their offline relationships with the people in their society (Christie and Geis, 1970, Rauthmann, 2011 and Jonason and Webster, 2012). The abovementioned strategies included projecting intimacy, hurting others’ feelings such as making they feel ashamed, embarrassed or guilty, manipulating and regulating someone’s personal information revealed (Austin et al., 2007, Blumstein, 1973, Brewer et al., in press and Jonason and Schmitt, 2010). It implies people who are with Machiavellianism, they would be more likely to promote themselves and their self-identity because they are willing to get satisfaction with the appreciation from others. On the other hand, the personality trait of Narcissism is with a strong and inflated self-concept and is characterized by an unrealistic positive self-view (Buffardi & Campbell, 2008). It implies that people with Narcissism would be more likely to propose leadership and authority to others, by building and shaping their entitlement and exhibition through self-promotion. For example, even on social media, a research of personality shows that narcissism is one of the most powerful predictors of self-promotional content in social media (Carpenter, 2012) such as Facebook, Instagram, twitter and snapchat. With that, the sense of selfishness of Narcissism would lead them to put themselves and their authority over others easily in their society through advocating self-promotion.
