She went back to the foster homes at the age of seven. All of the foster homes had terrible environments for a young child like her. Year after year after year this continued. She wanted all of these bad things to stop. She wanted good things to start. She had already dropped out of high school at the age of only 15. So she thought long and hard of what she should do. She decided that she had to get married. She married her boyfriend, Jimmy Dougherty. Jimmy was a Merchant Marine, and was later sent to the South Pacific. Monroe then decided to go work at a munitions factory. And that is how she became noticed.
Career Take-Off Marilyn was spotted by a photographer and was a star from the first camera click. By the time her husband, Jimmy, got back, she was famous and changed her name from Norma Jeane Baker to Marilyn Monroe to help prep her for her (hopefully) upcoming acting career. Sadly, Marilyn and Dougherty’s marriage started to fall apart once Marilyn started focusing more on her career.
