We have all had a time where we have had to be courageous and take a chance at doing something but you already knew it would turn out not the way you expected. Such as trying to do a backflip and you don't know how to do it, you knew you would not get it the first time around. But you try anyways and fall on your face. This is evident throughout the whole story, such as tom robinson's trial, atticus knew he would lose but tried anyways or when Scout stood up to Mr. Cunningham she knew she couldn't beat him up but tried to stop him.

One example that shows the exact theme is when Jem and scout are learning to shoot their Air rifles. An example that Harper Lee had is when Atticus said “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens; they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” Throughout the story many people have their innocence killed for no reason. This supports the theme because every time someones innocence was killed they didnt do any harm before and were hurt for no reason. Another example of someone's innocence being killed is Tom robinson's. Someone that represents a mockingbird is Tom Robinson because throughout the trial he was not guilty and because he was black he was automatically guilty for doing nothing. Tom Robinson had a disabled right arm and couldn't do anything with it and mostly all of her bruises were on her right side” The evidence was clear that he would not of been able to do it but Tom was still called guilty because he was black. He end up dying for doing nothing besides trying to help someone out. Harper lee was able to show the theme of how it's a sin to kill someone's innocence by using symbolism of a mocking
