Defining Moments In My Life

Great Essays
As we go through life, we have many experiences that become pivotal and defining moments, moments that shape us into who we are today and even cause us to change our attitude or perspective on life itself. One of these signature moments in my life was a happy one, the other, the worst thing I’ve ever had to go through. There are two days of my life that I will never forget because they both had a huge impact on me. I will never forget the day my nephew was born and I will never forget the day my dog died. Both of these experiences were not only extremely emotional, but also taught me a lot about life in general. Family has always been very important to me, but it wasn’t until my sophomore year that I really began to understand just how much I needed them and how blessed I was to be surrounded by amazing people. I had no motivation to do anything. I started falling way behind on my school work because I could never convince myself to get out of bed. My family had to put him down the week of finals, so I missed almost all of my finals in my classes, which made my grades suffer even more. Luckily, most of my teachers were really understanding and let me take incompletes in the courses so I was able to complete them after the semester had already ended. I had to go in everyday after school and do all of the make-up work and take all the tests that I had missed. I ended up passing all of my classes, (thank God!) but my grades were still not that great. My parents decided to put me in online school for the time being so I could work from home. We found that this was a much better fit for me anyway, considering I had always struggled with social anxiety and had a hard time focusing in

Part I: Describe a “key moment” in your educational experience as a student that impacted you significantly in your life. An incident that impacted me significantly occurred when I was in the fifth grade. I was always a high achiever and an “A” student. The school I attended only had one music teacher who taught every grade. Since I had always received an “A” in music class I assumed I had a reasonable singing voice.…

The Path to a Higher Education “Without education, you are not going anywhere in this world” (Malcolm X). In both Frederick Douglass’ article “Learning to Read” and in Malcolm X’s article “A Homemade Education” they discuss the challenges and obstacles that they had to overcome. Frederick Douglass was a man that was born in the horrors of slavery and later became a famous abolitionist speaker in the north. Malcolm X may not have been a man born into slavery, but he was still treated poorly because of his race. X later became a well-known leader during the Civil Rights Movement.…

Life-changing experiences, or turning points, often cause difficulty to the person who is facing them. This thought is explored in the text,” The Father of Chinese Aviation,” by Rebecca Maksel, the autobiography Warriors Don’t Cry written by Melba Pattillo Beals, and the narrative I Never Had it Made by Jackie Robinson. Feng Ru, The first Chinese Aviator, Melba Pattillo Beals, one of the first black children to go to a white school, and Jackie Robinson, the first black MLB player, have all faced life-changing experiences and, in doing so, have affected their own countries gravely. Jackie Robinson was the first, of his race, to play in major league baseball. Jackie was asked to join a major league team, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and, even though…

Something in me has always known that I was not typical. In this generation, the typical person would graduate high school and then go on to pursue a two to four year college degree. Up until a few months ago, that was what I thought I was going to do. I thought that I was going to go to a private college somewhere, major in law, come out to be a defense attorney, and spend my days and nights hauled up in a courtroom somewhere. I believed that that was going to be my reality not because I wanted it to be but because I thought it had to be.…

The school year was almost to an end, but since I was in fourth grade, there were finals. That was also a problem because since I missed lots of studying I was worried that I would do badly on the finals.
