Napoleon's Abuse Of Power In Animal Farm By George Orwell

Power (noun) possession of control, authority, or influence over others. Napoleon is the unanimously elected leader of Animal Farm and uses his power for lots of bad rather than good. He uses the animal’s inability to read and their foolish minds to get away with unfair deeds against them. The system of checks and balances would help eliminate Napoleon’s abuse of power when he made deals and trades with the farmers, when he executed the animals, and when he slept on Jones’ bed. First, the system of checks and balances would help eliminate Napoleon’s abuse of power when he made deals and trades with the farmers. As stated in the sixth commandment, “No animal shall kill another animal.” (Orwell 24). This was violated when Napoleon ordered his dogs to kill multiple animals who confessed to working with Snowball, stealing food, urinating in the drinking water, murdering a ram, and more. They were all slaughtered in front of the other animals. “And so the tale of confessions and executions went on, until there was a pile of corpses lying before Napoleon’s feet and the air was heavy with the smell of blood, which had been unknown there since the expulsion of Jones.” (Orwell 84). If the system of checks and balances was in use, this might not have happened. The animals could have been arrested by the executive branch if they were caught doing the crimes(which we soon learn that the animals never committed). Then they could go to court where the judicial branch would decide if they were guilty or not, instead of Napoleon just automatically declaring that all of those animals were guilty of crimes, which would have prevented those animals from getting executed and from Napoleon making all the

I think power does corrupt. Have you ever felt like someone is controlling your life. So you couldn't take charge of anything that goes on in your own life, and nothing can be done about it. Power does corrupt because when some people have a power they take advantage of it and they make sure that what they want happens and no one can change it. In the story ‘‘ Animal Farm’’ when Major dies the two pigs Napoleon and Snowball took over the farm when they kicked out Jones (the farmer).…

To begin with, the first sighting of the lack of education the animals posses is when Napoleon starts to control them. The animals were so absent minded to realize that Napoleon was building a pyramid, and placing everyone below him. For example, in the novel, it states “Napoleon denounced such ideas as contrary to the spirit of Animalism. The true happiness he said , lay in hard work and living frugally,” (Chapter 10, Pg 107). With this action taking place, it shows that Napoleon took advantage of the dictatorship and used it to his own well being instead of properly leading them.…

Kant says that our treatment of animals is analogous to human nature and that treating animals in inhumane way damages the duty to mankind(Kant,1). Using Kant’s logic, if you perform an inhumane action to an animal it is morally wrong (because of the indirect duty to humanity).Fred performs inhumane actions to his puppies and is cognizant of them, therefore his actions are morally wrong. Some may argue against this point because they do not believe that animals have nothing to do with humanity and that they are just simply means to an end. If this were true, my argument will not stand. To counter this objection, I would bring up scenarios where people, who at a young age tortured animals ,grow up to be murderers, or other violent and evil people.…

Events such as these marked the beginning of a decline in animal treatment. In Britain animals were facing a much bigger problem, extermination. ”Historian Hilda Kean says It was just another way the war had began. ’It was one of the things people had to do when the news came- evacuate the children, put up the blackout curtains, kill the cat.’”…

Have you ever wondered what would happen if the animals of a farm took over the farm and run it by themselves. Well in the book animal farm, that is exactly what happens. After the animals kick out the farmer and his employees, they create seven commandments to live by. Unfortunately, the proclaimed leader of the farm, a pig named Napoleon, and the other pigs and the dogs abuse their power and break the seven commandments. If the farm had set up a system of checks and balances to limit the pigs power like in the US constitution, they could have stopped Napoleon from using his power to kill other animals, drinking alcohol, and from changing the commandments.…

It’s basically everything I just talked about but in a more broad form. Power can simply mean the ability to control someone, “…rather the systematic manipulation of the most mundane aspects of human nature over time…” (Gray 2017). As another example, once again, Hitler is a great example of power, the way that he was able to control thousands of people with only words is crazy. It really goes to show how strong power can be.…

Why does power always wind up going to your head? Some leaders begin to go crazy with power: killing family, lying, and cruelty ruling their subjects all to gain even more power. Well what if I told you we weren't even talking about a human? Would you think it is crazy that it is actually a pig ruling a farm and oppressing the other animals? Interestingly, that is exactly what Napoleon, a pig in the book Animal Farm, did.…

Bought and forgotten, tossed like someone’s garbage, brutally beaten or a frail body so weak from starvation. Animals, like humans, are made of flesh and blood. They do feel pain, do cry, do starve and do need love and protection. To some people, abusing animals doesn’t strike them as a true crime, many believe it’s just a stupid animal. Animal abuse is a crime and should not be tolerated no matter how bold or transparent it is.…

George Orwell believed in using axioms (a statement or proposition that is regarded as being established, accepted, or self-evidently true), in order to prove or describe a point he has made. One axiom in perticular that Orwell has used is as follows, “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” This statement is accurate because there are many examples throughout the history of the world (some even being fictional) that prove it to be so. For example, in George Orwell’s book, Animal Farm, he uses Napolean to illistrate his point. Comrade Napoleon’s original goal was to create a farm run by Animals that was successful and prosperous.…

Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. No animal shall wear clothes.…

By definition humans are animals. Humans kill humans and it is a massive crime. The question remains: why is that when animals are killed by humans, it’s completely accepted? As scientific research has revealed more of the nature of our fellow animals in recent years, many people over the world have debated and petitioned for a bill of rights for animals. There should be a bill of rights for animals because they exhibit humanlike cognitive abilities and emotions and must be protected from harmful abuse, but these rights must not blur the line with human rights.…

“Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely.” was said by Lord Acton. The lesson Orwell intends to share with his readers is that power can lead to corruption. He does this by showing Napoleon abusing the trust of his comrades, misguiding the lesser-educated animals, and placing the blame on everyone but himself. Orwell shows power leads to corruption through Napoleon consistently abusing how much faith the animals have in him.…
