As everyone talks about how amazing the Technology Management Program is at UCSB, I could not agree more and now fully understand what they mean and thoroughly enjoy these classes. I am excited to be able to apply our TMP 111 speaker’s ideas and advice to my day to day life in the present as well as influencing my decisions and choices for the rest of my life. The thing I enjoyed most about the speakers were their ability to relate back to us college students, and provide a realistic example that what we are doing right now directly impacts our future. Three principles I am taking away with me from this class correlate to motivation; because I have a small idea of what career path I want to follow but not a great amount of confidence I can get…

At first I was slightly hesitant, being that I was already involved in several other organizations such as Key club, Ski club, traveling soccer, etc. Although, after some thought and some research, I decided that I would give it a chance. To become a mentor, I had to go through online training to learn how to properly mentor and help my future mentee.…

Schon (1983) proposed that reflective practice is part and parcel of the embodiment of knowledge; which indicates actions done in a profession is a translation of a person’s knowledge. Loughran (2002) made the connection between reflective practice and the profession by stating that in many professions such as science, nursing, medicine, law and teaching, the need to increase a person’s knowledge constantly exist for him or her to be an effective and informed practitioner, and reflection emerges as an option for these professionals to better understand what they know. Reflective practice, particularly among pre-service teachers, has been widely researched over the years. Tillema (2000) pointed out that reflection-oriented learning is essential…

McNiff’s diagram inspired me to construct my own illustration of practice. I have attempted to show how my numerous research cycles has linked, each informing the practice of the next whilst also depicting how the process has supported the strengthening of my identity as a leader. The need to construct such a map of my journey directed me to look more closely into the differences I experienced between my personal, professional and academic identity. The diagram shown in figure 5 shows how I chose also to work in cycles of ‘plan-do-review’, in a reflective cycle, then before moving on, investigating the problems and outcomes of interventions. Each cycle tests and informs me as a leader with each creating multiple cycles of enquiry depicting…

It is my belief that education in America today should include more collaboration and working in groups so that each child is an equal participant where their thoughts and questions valued. Teachers should not be the primary givers of knowledge, but provide learning opportunities and guide children as they learn by asking questions and then letting them find answers by conducting their own investigations. (“What is the Reggio Emilia Approach?,” 2016). ). They should also use a balance of teaching strategies and learning opportunities that are child centered and responsive to student’s needs and interests (Freeman, Decker, and Decker, 2013). School environments should be supplied with many interesting types of materials that inspire children…
From my brief experience as a consultant, I developed a few insightful notes about what working as a peer mentor is and more specifically, working with students from an ESL class. The first being that preliminary expectations should be avoided at all costs. Having expectations about your writer before coming into the writing center is a set and makes it harder to reconnect with the writer. For me, I had been ready to address the global issues without first hearing the prompt from the writers and the writers’ understanding of it. Had I known that two of the writers didn’t want arguments in their essays beforehand, I would have better prepared myself to consult with them.…
