All that was left to do was the final step, which was the export process. We had to get the game onto a disc in order for us to submit the game for judging. As I hit the export button, it seemed as if it was working until, freeze. Nothing worked. “That’s odd,” I said to myself. I thought nothing of it as I relaunched the program. I started the export process again, and, nothing. My heart skipped a beat. I was starting to panic a little. I quickly let my friends know what was going on and tried to calm myself down. Seeing my blood, sweat, and tears fail to work now, at the last step, the easiest step, truly tested my will to keep going. After the submission deadline had passed, I had no choice but to accept my defeat and end my pointless crusade. I was devastated. What I learned from that experience has stayed with me to this day, and will stay with me until my last. From that fateful day, I learned two crucial lessons. I learned to to be more organized and to have a plan B that I could fall back on. I felt that by utilizing the knowledge I had, and applying the knowledge I had gained from my crushing defeat, I was ready to take the bull by the horns and go all the way to the national competition. After a year of tireless effort, my team and I pulled through. After fighting tooth and nail to wade through the sea of applicants and rise to the top, we finally made it to the national competition. After submitting our game to the judges, we waited, each minute seemingly a year. At the award ceremony, as the names for the competition winners were called out I heard my school’s name. “I did it” was all that went through my mind as I walked up to the stage.
