Personal Narrative: My First Job

One of the biggest turning points and accomplishment in my life thus far was when I received my first promotion ever at my first job when I turned 16. It wasn't about the job i was working or even the promotion its what I took away from it, it was the point in my life after listening to everyonee say for so long if you work hard it will pay off. This is when it finally clicked. I got my first job at McDonalds and it was seriously a learning experience. My first two weeks on the job were terrible, I started off working in the kitchen, and everyone else moved ten times faster than I was. I could help but wonder why this wasn't coming easily to me? Why couldn't I figure it out? The mere thought of failing at my first job horrified me. I realized …show more content…
Growing up playing sports I learned that hard work and persistence pays off and time and time again it has. I was working five days and nearly 40 hours a week at McDonalds causing me to become very efficient at my job. I was more and more confident every time I stepped into work and stressful situations because I was learning very quickly how to manage more tasks in a very busy, stressful, and fast paced environment. It wasn't long after I was hired that I was very quickly and efficiently working by myself doing multiple jobs. I soon became one of the fastest and most efficient employees at the restaurant. After about three months of working at McDonald's my hard work started to pay off. I was recognized by multiple managers for my hard work, and received a multitude of write ups commending me for my efficient work during my …show more content…
I had an eight hour shift ahead of me that Friday over the summer of 2015 which ended up being one of the busiest days of the year, not to mention the hottest. The temperature in the kitchen was a sweltering 90 degrees. Customers kept flowing through the door crashing ceaselessly on the cash register, like waves on a beach. Everyone was hot, sweat dripped down my brow and my feet ached, tired from all the rushing around. I was training the new employee, helping him with his jobs, all the while doing my own and accomplishing as much as I could for anyone else. He had a million and one questions about every task and I did my best to field his quires. Around the six hour mark in my shift, a manager became ill and could no longer work. The management asked me to step into her role; I readily stepped up to the challenge. I was doing jobs I had never tried before but I managed to adequately accomplish the task at hand. The managers took notice. Eventually the the rush was subsided and the managers pulled me aside. I was nervous, wondering if I had done something wrong. I was taken aback when they told me that I was one of the hardest working sixteen-year-olds that they had ever met and continued to express that they would like to promote me to the position of Crew Trainer. This was my proudest moment on the job as I was selected for a position that people much older and more experienced

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…

Of the many different influential experiences I have had over the past years, the one that stands out to me the most as a true rite of passage was starting my first job as a lifeguard at Nassau Country Club. It taught me lessons like the true meaning of hard work, the the value of a day's pay and most of all, what it means to have someone's life in one's hands. These lessons were given to me through my own experiences, as well as by my boss, Dr. Dan Cavallo D.O, one of the hardest working men I know. It all began, however, with a huge stack of towels. On my first day of work, I was more nervous than I had ever been in my entire life.…
