When no one was asking or answering a question the room was so silent you could hear a pin drop. Even before the trail had even started you felt like you had to whisper, and even that seemed too loud. There was a stark contrast though, between the silence and when the victim was up on the stand, she had no problem very loudly saying what she needed to. The spatial arrangement adds to this because the two parties are sitting far away from each other, and the judge is in the middle of them, placed up higher them in the position of authority. The body language was read loud and clear in this setting. Specific examples would be, the woman speaking in Spanish kind of “acted out” what she was saying, and you were able to understand most of what she was saying from just that. You could also see the when the defense thought something she said wasn’t true, or something they could use against her. They would sit up straighter at these times, they sometimes wrote things down, or just shook their head and rolled their eyes. You could also read the body language from the attorneys when they were surprised at an answer the witness
