I was very hesitant in the beginning, because I tried out for UIL third grade and was told I wasn’t good enough. Turns out, I was the only person to sign up for UIL freshman year, which is where I met my amazing coach, Miss Francart. I won district and region that year, making it to state, which would be held in Austin, Texas. Sadly, I didn’t place. Sophomore year, I also won district and region. Right before I went on to state, I found out that Miss Francart was moving back to Michigan. I was heartbroken, because she was more than just my coach; she was my friend. I did not place at state, because I was more focused on spending time with her. Miss Francart promised she would fly down my junior year if I made it. My junior year, I met a new coach, Miss Early. Although we were not as close as Miss Francart and I, she wanted to do everything she could to help me do my best. Luckily enough, I regained my title as district and regional champ and made it back to state for the third consecutive year. Just like Miss Francart promised, she met us down in Austin. We only got to spend a few hours together, but I was delighted that she flew all the way down to visit with me. I tied for first at state, but the tiebreaker placed me third. A lot of people don’t realize spelling bees and UIL spelling are two different things,
