An individual’s lifestyle can be drawn from two sub-categories: identity and salary. When someone is working and loves what they are doing, it is not a job anymore. College can help people establish their identity, but believe it or not, people with college degrees are also more likely to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Sixty-eight percent of four year college graduates exercise at least once a week as compared to forty percent of people who are only high school graduates (Pfeffer). Eight percent of college graduates claim they smoke compared to the twenty-five percent of people who are only high school graduates (Pfeffer). Healthy lifestyle choices can turn into lifelong habits that can make a significant difference. In addition to healthy lifestyles, there are seven tasks during a college students’ development: developing competence, managing emotions, becoming autonomous, establishing identity, freeing interpersonal relationships, clarifying purposes, and developing integrity or wholeness (Landino 2-3).
