Chris Kyle writes himself as the real american hero, by his words and stories. Any man or woman who volunteers to serve our country is a hero in many eyes. This isn't neccacialy the thing that make you a sheepdog though. You are judged not on your words but the opinion of the men around you, and the facts. It is protecting the sheep from the wolf's harmful intent. This can range anywhere from killing, stealing, or just denying the help sheep require. One of the things that helps a sheepdog know how to protect the sheep is understanding the problems they have. This could stem from being around these issues or experiencing them yourself. To have weakness is to be a sheep, but to do something about it for the better of everyone is a sheepdog. Kyly had his own battles with PTSD and the lack of help from his government. On a few occasions he had episodes of flashbacks or confusion. Because of this he could understand what the suffering soldiers were going through.
