An example of one of the primary effects of climate change, and how it impacts us in a tropical format. C. Climate Change is real phenomenon occurring in our world today, due to the warming oceans, melting ice sheets and rising sea levels, our earth will never be the same
II. Body
A. Warming Oceans
1. Since 1969 the oceans have risen a total of .302° F
2. 80-90% of heat caused by CO2 emissions are absorbed by the ocean
a. Warmer water causes hurricanes and tropical storms
b. Extreme weather is most likely caused by warmer ocean temperatures
3. Species need to adapt or they will not survive
a. Rising deeper sea temperatures causing coral to die
b. Zooplankton grow faster than plankton thus disrupting food chain
Transition: “One of the biggest consequences of the rising ocean temperatures is the effect it has on the ice caps.”
B. Melting ice sheets
1. Ice sheets in both Antarctica and Greenland are losing mass
a. It is estimated that Antarctica is losing 134 gigatonnes of ice every year since 2002
b. While it is estimated that in Greenland, 287 gigatonnes of ice is melting every year
2. Melting ice sheets have a direct effect on things such as the sea level and habitable land for animals
a. Two-thirds of polar bear population will be gone by
