Polls give a trainer or instructor the opportunity to ask survey questions in real time to students. Questions can be multiple choice, multiple answer, and even in some programs, open ended. Poll questions have to be initially created and then administered during the class. Creating a poll entails typing in the question and receiving all possible responses. In poll administration, one has to ensure that the poll is shared at the correct time, it is opened for responses, the response window is closed appropriately, and results are shared judicially with participants.
Polls can be applied to survey participants in an unlimited number of ways. For instance, a teacher who has finished teaching on adult learning techniques, once satisfied …show more content…
The trainer would divide the class into smaller groups and then activate the breakouts on screen. Participants then move into a virtual private meeting room where they can only hear their private conversation. In tis break out groups, participants can share documents and whiteboards among themselves and collaborate together. The trainer has the ability and mandate to move in and out of the breakouts, just like he or she would walk around the room in a tradition classroom set up.
Breakout groups can be used to strengthen skills learned during the given training event. For instance, after students learn techniques on how to start a coaching conversation with an employee, they can follow by practising those techniques in a small group setting. Therefore in such a breakout, one participant could practice the new coaching skill, another participant could be on the receiving end of the practice, while the third participant could be the silent observer. The participants could then rotate roles alternatively, with each having a chance to practice the new coaching …show more content…
You could also use application sharing when you need to edit documents during class. For example, if you are demonstrating how to enter text into a file, then you would need to have the file open in editing mode, which is another way to think of application sharing. Perhaps the most common use of application sharing is when you are conducting software training in the virtual classroom. With application sharing, the software program becomes visible to all participants.
Advantages of Involving Virtual Worlds in Classrooms
Improves students’ learning experience through the design of appropriate class activities
Provides students the sense of reality through simulation
Provides nonverbal cues in online discussion
Provides the capability of interaction between students and various people from around the world to discuss class topics
Provides an advantage for some assignments (3D modelling, online social interaction, role playing, etc.) through visual and immersive aspects
Provides the instructor the key capability of teaching in an online environment without time/space constrains
Disadvantages of Involving Virtual Worlds in Classrooms
Complexity and steep learning curve of the environment
Difficulty in the orientation in the surroundings when guidance is not designated and provided appropriately as part of the instruction Limitations with
