In the story Outsiders a boy named Ponyboy is either going to stay with his brothers or go into a boys home. Did you know 10% of foster kids are abused by their foster parents or they run away. I think that this is why Ponyboy should stay with Darry because he have good grades,he is there for Ponyboy and he does not get in trouble with Darry. Ponyboy says through the hole book that he don't want to go to a boys home that he wants to stay with Darry and Sodapop. Ponyboy should stay with Darry because he wants to and he keeps him safe.…
I think that when ponyboy saied "We don't mind being called greaser by another greaser" he was going for that the socs have more money and are "higher up" in sociaty then the greasers so I think they feel it's ok because there at the same levle in sociaty because they don't have much money and ar looked down apon. It can also be that they are an actule group or gang because they don't stab each other in the back they all look out for one another and will help each other unlike the socs they trun there backs on each other and stab each other in the back so they aren't really a group or gang. Ther is one example in the book were ponyboy says that when we call each other Greasers we are joking around. and he also explains the hole thing about…
At the beginning of the The Outsiders, young narrator Ponyboy Curtis expresses his feelings of being an outsider amongst his family, friends, and the general society. Ponyboy explains to the reader about his intellectualism, yet he does not understand the knowledge of common sense. Ponyboy is the only person amongst his family and friends inclined to watch movies or read books. These inclinations carries him through his making of good grades and a high IQ, but do not carry him through his knowledge of common sense.…
Although each gang members love each other, they all have different character traits and are different people. Ponyboy is a 14 year old that lives with Darry and Sodapop. He is an intelligent young boy but he does not use his head.…
The Outsiders by S.E Hinton demonstrates the gap between different social classes, and how different groups of people see each other based on the lack or abundance of money or simply how they look. Throughout the book S.E Hinton also demonstrates how you can see the truth in people without letting previous opinions based on looks or money interfere. In the beginning of the book Ponyboy says, “ It seemed funny to me that sons - if these girls were any example were just like us” (p.37) This is the first time in the book where a greaser starts to notice the similarities between the greasers and the socials. This also shows how Ponyboy is starting to overcome what he originally thought about socials and how they where nothing like the greasers.…
Different Worlds Yet The Same Sunset It is easy to form opinions about people without getting to know them. In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, there are two gangs of different financial standings. The Greasers live on the run down East side of town, and the Socs live on the wealthy West side of town. The two gangs often go head to head, letting their diversity separate them.…
It can be very hard to change people's opinion after they think they know your personalities. "I mean my second oldest brother Soda, who is sixteen, never cracks a books at all, and my oldest brother, Darrel, who we call Darry works to long and hard to be interested in a story or drawing a picture, so I'm not like them." This quote shows that unlike Ponyboy, nobody in his family wants or is interested in the things Ponyboy is. Ponyboy doesn't like to fight, in fact he wishes that people didn't even fight at all. This shows how Ponyboy isn't like his friends, he doesn't really want to fight people to prove himself.…
A hero, according to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary is “a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities”, or “one who shows courage”. Write an essay explaining why you believe each of the Greasers - Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally - could be considered a hero. Include your own definition of hero in the essay, and be sure to explain how each character, in his own way, meets your definition. Remember to support your ideas with examples. The Outsiders…
They struggle to make ends meet and Ponyboy knows this. He also feels the weight of the class separation between him and his friends, his family, and the ‘socs’. He notices the kids around him who…
Time and time again people come to the common question of, “Movies vs. books?” Many movies follow their books word for word whether its character development or plot development, whereas other movies change and twist the book’s stories in unimaginable ways, yet people are still faced with the question, “Movies or books?” An example of how books and movies can differ is in the story “The Outsiders” written by S. E. Hinton and produced by Francis Coppola. Although there are many similarities that both the book, The Outsiders, and the movie share, there were many noticeable differences in the appearance and personalities of all the characters. Three of the main characters, Pony, Johnny and Soda, will be reviewed in particular.…
The Socs and the Greasers always have major conflict due to many reasons such as their style, their wealth, and who is better. Both Johnny and Ponyboy are Greasers along with their other relatives. Greasers is a wild gang that has an edgy style with their hair long hair slicked back with a generous amount of grease, hence the name given, Greasers. On the other hand Socs are completely different when it comes to their looks. Socs wear basic madras shirts and usually are wealthy with light colored hair such a blonde.…
At first Ponyboy thinks the Socs have it made, but by the end of the novel, he too realizes that "things are rough all over". Not only does he find that different people have different problems, but little experiences can be the same for any other, such as the sunset. Once he views Cherri's and Randy's perspective without his own ideals clouding his judgment he is able to understand that the sides make no difference unless they are perceived that way. Ponyboy realizes Darry really did love and care for him and just yelled at him at times and nagged him because he didn't want him to get hurt. His fear of "losing another person he loved" (p.98) is what makes him so protective, and it's not that he has no feelings as Ponyboy originally believes, but too many.…
