Pressure ulcers, otherwise known as decubiti are a nuisance to both patients and their healthcare providers. It affects the transition of care, the patient’s length of stay and it has an adverse impact on the cost of care. Caring for pressure ulcers is a costly care, which can put financial burden on a healthcare facility. These ulcers are preventable. They can be avoided with vigilance and proper care of patients. Patients need to be given the attention that is needed to afford efficient and effective care.

There has to be specificity in regards to what is being considered, such as, the type of patient, the condition affecting the patient, and the type of intervention necessary to alleviate the problem.
