In a controversial time, Edward Snowden once said, “I can't in good conscience allow the U.S. government to destroy privacy, internet freedom and basic liberties for people around the world with this massive surveillance machine they're secretly building.” Edward Snowden is an American who specialized in computers working for the United States government. He worked under the CIA and was a contractor who copied classified information, without prior authorization, from the National Security Agency in 2013 and leaked it to a newspaper published called “The Guardian” in Great Britain. Many people leaking classified information to the public is because they feel that they can make a difference to the country they live in and ultimately the world. In my eyes, they are an invaluable part of our world. We need people to break out of things that they feel are unjust and show them to the world. The whistleblower must be protected, and if you don't protect the whistleblower, he or she will not step forward to leak this unjust information. Law’s must come into play and be reviewed to see if what they leaked is beneficial to the community as well and not just the company or government. Obviously, if someone leaked information, that puts a country or company at risk and does more harm than good, then we should consider the charges we want to put against them. By explaining what whistleblowers risk and their plan after leaking this information, why whistleblowers actions are just, and what laws we need to enact to protect whistleblowers, we will eventually have more trust in each other and the companies and governments we involve ourselves in. Whistleblowers are a big help to our society these days because we never know what’s truly going on behind a big organization unless we have people to uncover the truth. We can only make this happen if the whistleblower feels safe and is granted immunity. Do something if you see or hear something that you think is wrong and know that you have laws to protect you whilst doing so. We live in a world where we need the truth to be known because that should be our basic human right. Every step we take into doing so gets us that closer to living in a free world with no corruption beneath the depths where our eyes cannot
