According to the World Cancer Research Fund International (WCRF) men (black men more specifically) in the United States have the highest incidence of colorectal cancer as compared to women. Colon cancer (colorectal cancer) is the development of cancer from the colon or rectum due to the abnormal cell proliferation caused by Prostaglandin E2(PGE2). PGE2 is increased or stimulated by cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and COX-1 is responsible for the baseline levels of prostaglandlins. In normal colonic epithelium 15-PGDH activity is up-regulated but in colon cancer its decreased. The purpose of this is to determine the expression of 15-PGDH, COX2 and …show more content…
Cells can be destroyed by the body or even by external factors and therefore these cells have to be replaced. The replacement of these cells by other cells should be capable of performing the same function as the destroyed cells. The process that involves the replacement of cells is complex, therefore many errors can occur reference in text.
The errors can result to an abnormal cell growth but in some instance the errors can be corrected through the Cell Cycle, which the Cell Cycle is a series of events that take place in a cell leading to its division and duplication of its DNA. If the cell is not corrected by additional effective system it can lead to Apoptosis (Programmed Cell-death), which is one of the natural cell-death. The types of natural deaths include apoptosis, necrosis and mitotic catastrophe. If abnormal cells are not corrected and Natural cell death does not occur, they result to the development of a tumor that is then formed by the proliferation of damaged cells. These tumors have two categories which are benign and malignant
