The main motive has always been about protecting society from individuals in jail but what about those individuals that need help to improve their mentality. From a Christian perspective, our response to crime is a test of our morals. The hermeneutical circle is an approach to promote crime prevention and genuine rehabilitation. According to USCCB, there must be recognition that the dignity of the human person applies to both the victim and offender. The increase of prisons and executions does not reflect Christian values. And one of those doctrines is salvation by grace. Grace is getting what we do not deserve from God (Slick). To be saved by grace means that the judgment due to us, because of our sin against God, is forgiven. Offenders get what they deserved. They did their time in jail and that is justice.
